Our chosen topic is hair. After brainstorming various different ideas our group then narrowed the list down to four different topics which we then choose out of our best four ideas which would be the best to base our documentary on. These four were; Cats, Hair, food and computers. Cats was one of our final four choices as we felt like it would be easy for use to film and get footage for as most people have cats so there would be a large opportunity of our documentary, however we choose not to use our first choice of documentary which was cats because we think that it is a too broad subject, but also as I am allergic to cats it would not be the best idea to film with cats. One of the other choices which we had was Hair, a positive to this documentary would be that it would be easy to film as everyone has hair and also there is a variety of options such as hair styles, hair dye ect. Also for hair, we feel as if we would be able to make a 30 minute programme about it, as there is enough things to talk about but it is not too broad. Another choice that we had was food after dissicing this topic we decided that this subject would be too broad to fit into a 30 minute documentary and therefore would not be suitable. Computers was the next of our four choices, a positive about this subject is we thought that this programme would interest alot of people as there is alot of technology now days but no-one really documents it, so we thought that doing a documentary about computers would interest allot of people. One Negative about this documentary was that we do not have a lot of knowledge about computers and we think it would be easier for us to do a subject that we are more familiar with.
After thinking about the four topics that we had chosen, we decided to use the subject of hair as our documentary theme, this was because out of the four it seemed to come back with the most positive points about it, but also it is the subject that we as a group know the most about. In the subject of hair there a are several different things that we could explore hair styles, hair dye, facial hair, hair dressers ect.
Target Audience
The target audience for our documentary is mostly females and people who care about there hair. The age group for our documentary is 13-30 year olds, this is because we think that they have a particular interest in hair and like it too look good.
Scheduling
We have decided that we want our documentary to be shown in the evening, 8pm-9.00. We also decided to put it on at this time so that it follows directly after the seven o'clock news, so some people may continue to watch this channel and watch our documentary. Our documentary is shown after most of the popular tv soaps/shows so that people are more than likely to watch the documentary if theres nothing else they would normally watch at that time. It is also before the watershed, so this means that our programme will we suitable for children and younger audiences.
We have decided that the documentary should be shown on Channel four as we think that our documentary fits in with the types of documentaries which are normally shown on this channel. Also this channel tends to show the most documentary out of all of the channels so we think that it will fit with the types of shows.
