Research for documentary
Primary Research:
We asked a hairdresser at Tony and Guy could we interview them in their shop and they agreed, so we had our first interview and film footage. So arrangrend a date a time with them when we could go back to film our footage. We considered mise en scene for this interview by asking if it was okay to film where the hair was stlyed as this would mean that it would link to what was being said.
We then wanted to do some vox pops outside the hairdressers so to do that we had to get in touch with Warrington town centre area team to get their permission and we did this by looking on their website and finding their details so we could phone them to ask if it was possible. Below is the link to their website:

As part of our documentary we want to interview some trainee hairdressers, so we emailed Warrington Collegiate, asking them if we would be able to interview a couple of their students. We decided to ask Collegiate as the college is close to our own college, but we were not able to ask students who do the course in our college as it isn't a course that they do. Below is the email which we sent to Collegiate asking if we could interview some of their students:
After asking Warrington Collegiate they never got back to us to tell us whether or not it would be possible, so we couldn't go and film their students.
Secondary Research:
Some of the facts we are putting in the documentary are from these websites:-

Some of the facts that we have thought about using in our documentary are on this website:

In our documentary we want to use some archive clips, so we researched different clips that we could use in our documentary, Below are the clips which are Archive footage which we have choose to use in our documentary:
We decided that we wanted to use a clip of Nicki Minaj as part of our archive footage in our documentary as we think that she has very bright and a extreme hairstyle which some people may class as being a 'disaster'.
We decided to use a clip of pink in our celebrity montage as we think that her hairstyle is very iconic and very unique. It is also a big influence on peoples hairstyles.
We decided to use a clip of the duo 'Jedward', as we think that there hair is very extravagant and shocking, but also has influenced alot of men to get the 'quiff' look.
We decided to use a clip from Paloma Faith's video as we thought that she has a very unique vintage style and she is helping to bring vintage back into fashion and our everyday lives.
We decided to use Russell Brand as an example of celebrity haircuts as his hair is quite unusual and weird to see a celebrity have.
We decided to use Emeli Sande as an example of celebrity hair as we think that it is quite a bold, usual look which makes Emeli look really individual.
We decided to use this shot of emma waston as one on the people we interviewed mention her in her answer so we thought that it would be a good like, but also her haircut was quite a shocking change to her hair before.
We decided to use a clip of Miley Cyrus as her new haircut was very shocking compared to her old hair. The short pixie bob is a look she has never had before.
We have decided to use this song as our soundtrack throughout the documentary as it relates to the subject of the documentary, but also is a upbeat happy song.

Formal propsal for documenary
The topic of the documentary is hair, different types, hairstyles, dying ect. Rather than the topic being just hair, we have decided to make the topic 'Hair Disasters this is because we think that it will be easier to do a subject which is less broad, but also let us do the documentary in more detail. The type of the documentary will be mixed because we will have narration as well as interviews. Its a modern style that is used quite often now for reporting. We want our documentary on Channel 4 as this is where most mixed documentaries are shown and are most popular. It will be shown 8pm-9pm, its will be followed directly after the 7 o'clock news which is what most people are watching then. Also by 8pm most of the popular soaps have finished so people are looking for something else to watch which could be our documentary. Its also during the watershed so the younger audience might be interested in watching it too. The target audience will be a wide audience from young to old as the topic of hair reaches out and interests most people, this will give a popular viewings because there will be many people watching the documentary. It will be based on hair disasters, things that have gone wrong with peoples hair, like cuts, dying ect. Colour scheme is going to be blue and pink because they are gender friendly for both genders, males and female. They are going to be light colours so that they are not distracting from the footage. We have decided that we want over voice-over to be done my a man, this is barbecuer we think that women would prefer listening to a mans voice, rather than another womans. We have also decided that we don't want too much narration in our documentary, as we prefer for the documentary to tell a story itself, but we will still use a voice-over. We have decided that we want to create a quick montage which is narrated which will be about celebrity hair and the impact that celebrity hairstyles have on the general public. This will also show some of the 'Hair Disasters', bright colours and weird styles that celebs have had. We will start our documentary by starting off with a montage of clips from our documentary, this is so that the viewer will get an idea of what's to come in the rest of our documentary. One thing that we will have to be careful with when using archive material is we have got to make sure the quality is right, as we are filming with a hd camera we need a clip which is of the same quality so that it fits in with the rest of our filming.
Primary research would be finding people to interview, permission with golden square for vox pops.
Secondary research would be tutorials, music for the background.
The outline will be montage for the introduction of what will be in the documentary, video tutorials, facts.
Cameras (small and big), tripod, people to interview

Brainstorm of content for documentary
Possible Interviews:
Professional hairdressers- I think that it would be a good idea for us to interview a professional hairdresser so that the viewer gets to see what hair dressing is like and get an idea of the real practice. Also so that the viewers can get the opinions of the people who cut their hair and what they think about important questions.
Interviews with owners of hairdressing shops-This is too show the viewers a proffessinal opinion about hair and why dying/straghiting your hair so much can affect the hairs quality and how it can end up ruining your hair.
Interview with famous celebrity hairdresser eg. Lee Stafford- This interview will be questions about how dying your hair too often and a proffessional opinion as to why he think that so many people contiuislsy do it when they know that it can affect the health of thier hair.
A person who regularly visits the salon- This is so that we can try and put across the person who gets there cuts opinion and why they think it is so important to regularly get their hair cut.
Archive Material:
Video and photos of celebrity hairstyles- We have decided to use this to show the most influenctioal cuts of the past years and how it has had an effect on the rest of the world.
Clips from Tv shows such as 'Celebrity Scissorhands'- We have decided to used this so that the viewer can see the practice of doing the hair and how hairstyles are created and how hair is dyed. Also as it is cut my celebritys is makes it more fun for the viewers to watch, as they get too see things going wrong and this makes the documentary a bit more fun for the viewer to watch.
Photographs of past hairstlyes- his is used to show how hairstlyes have changed and developed over the past cople of years/centrys and why more people are starting to take more care and attention into their hair.
Clips of youtube tutorials- We have decided to use this to so that it gives examples of the different styles/techniques invloed with cutting hair.
Music:
Music that is associated with hair such as 'I whip my hair back and forth' Willow Smith'- This is so that it links in with our subject and also makes the documentary more interseting to listen to.
Theme tune- This will be used at the beginnning of the documentary, this will help to give the whole theme to our documentary and make it more appealing to the viewer.
Cut Aways:
Of different hair stlyes- This is used to show the varation in different hairstyles and how they vary depending on the person personailte or tastes.
Different hair dye- This is so that the viewers can see the different opitipons for hair dyes which are availble t the public and the large vartiey that they have on sale.
Of Different hair products- This is so that the viewer can get an idea of all of the different products that are avaliabke to the public.
Vox pops:
Video footage in a shopping centre asking the public questions about hair- This is so that we can get the viewers point of view in the documentary and they feel like they are being represnted in the documnetary by people who have the same views as them.
Style of voiceover:
Mans voice- We have choosen to use a man as our voiceover as we think that it will suit our documentary, as it gives authority and as the majoriy of our audience will be women I think that they would prefer to listen to a mans voice than a womens. We also want the man to have quite a calm and soothing voice, so that it makes the doucumentary nicer to listen too, if the person has a nice voice. Also we don't want the man to have a strong accent, as we feel that if the accent is really strong then it may make it hard for cetrain people to understand it.
