Evaluation

Question 1:

Question 2:

We decided to add a link between the song which we choose as to use in our doucmentary by chanigng one of the peoples hair so that he had 'five colours in his hair' we did this using Photoshop CS5 to cleverly change the hair colours. I think that this was a good thing to do as it helped the documentary, radio ad and poster would link together better.  The laugh at the end was very symbolic as when creating the documenatry we heard several funny stories off hair dressers.

I think that our documentary and radio advert linked well together because we used the same song and voiceover, meaning that they linked together well and made it be easily recognisible that it was from our documentary.  We also managed to link the song in with the newspaper advert by changing one of the models hair so that he had 'five colours in his hair'.

Question 3:

Question 4- How have you used media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research-

Research was really important to us when creating and planning our product. In the research stages we used a number of different media technologies, both primary and secondary research.  I firstly started by researching into different documentary’s, the purpose of this was so that we would get a good idea of what a good documentary looks and also use this research as inspiration for our own documentary.  From this research I also started to develop my own ideas for what I wanted the documentary ys theme to be, who it would be aimed at ect. Here are print screens of my research:

After deciding on the theme of our documentary we decided to create a questionnaire which we would ask 20 people of our target audience. We choose to do this so that we could find out if they liked the idea which we had come up with and whether or not they liked the idea that we had come up with, this would help us to decide whether or not this was going to be our final product. From the questionnaire we found out that the majority of people liked our ‘Hair Disasters’ idea, so we decided to use this idea as it was suited to our target audience.  Another purpose of this was so that we could find out their opinions and also likes and dislikes about hair so that we would be able to include these later on as facts if we wanted to. One of the questions we asked was ‘Do you prefer dyed or natural hair?’ here is the results from this question below:

<!--[if !vml]--><!--[endif]-->One of our main research methods was the internet; we used the search engine Google to research into other documentaries, to find out what makes a successful documentary.  We also looked into existing posters; this was so that we could get an idea of what the channel 4 show posters look like, so that we could follow the normal codes and conventions of one.  This would also help us to start to think of our own ideas for our advert.  We also used youtube to do quite a lot of research into existing documentary’s and radio adverts, to help us get inspiration for our own work.

Planning:

In the planning stages we used a variety of different mediums to help to plan our documentary, radio advert and newspaper advert.  We firstly created an initial draft documentary of mobile phones so that we could try out using the cameras, the programmes ect. I think that this was really helpful as we got to try out with the equipment and programmes that we had never used before, so this meant that we got to try them out before doing the real thing.

Construction-

For the construction of the documentary we used a variety of different media technologies.  The main one which we used was Adobe Premier pro CS5, this programme is what we used to do all of the editing of the documentary. Before doing this project I didn’t know how to work premier but after creating this documentary I feel quite confident working within the programme.  One of the main things which we used premier for was changing the sound of the interviews from mono to stereo, this was because we recorded the sound using a clip microphone it meant that the sound was stereo and came out of one earphone only, so when we moved the clips into premier we made the sound come out of both earphones.

This is one of the main effects which we used throughout the documentary. We used this effect as we filmed our interviews using a clip mic, which only records in mono, so we had to use the fill left effectr so that the sound was stereo  and came out of both earphones.

This  was another of the main effects we used throughout our documentary which we used to change the speed/duration. The purpose of this tool was to slow the piece of film down or up depending on which effect we wanted to use.

Photoshop was one of the main programmes which we used to create our documentary.  Before doing this project I already had a wide variety of skills in photoshop, so this meant that I was able to quickly and successfully use the programme to a high standard.  We used photoshop to create the name banner for our interviews, we decided to create are own so that we could make it suit our documentary and so that it could look exactly the way we wanted it too.  We decided to make the banner pink so that it fit in with the colour scheme of the whole documentary, we also choose to have a small image of a hairbrush to link it too the theme of our documentary.  We also used photoshop to create our newspaper advert, this was so that we were able to make it very shocking so that it attracted the target audience to watch.
The banner:

We also used the radio room when creating our documentary. We used this for our voice over and radio advert, the reason for this was so that we would be able to get a very clear, smooth sounding voiceover. When in the radio room we used the microphone and the audio control switch board, this was used to change the volume of our sound coming through the microphone to make it louder.  We had to use a USB pen drive to move our sound from the radio room to our computer so that we could begin to add it into our products.

To film all of our footage we used two different cameras, the Sony HXR MC2000E which we used for interviews and vox pops. When filming over vox pops and interviews we used a tripod, this was so that our shot was a steady shot and it allowed us to easily adjust the camera to the height of the interviewee.  We also used a clip microphone when doing the vow pops and interviews, this was so that we could hear the interviewee clearer and they were much louder that the background so that that the sound was clear and un muffled. We used a smaller video camera to do the cutaways; this was so that we were able to get the same high quality footage as the larger camera, but so that we would be able to move the camera around easier.

Evaluation:

In the evaluation stages I used several different mediums to answer each of the questions.  Slide share.net- I used this site to upload my PowerPoint, the reason for this is because you can’t upload straight to blogger so this just helped me to upload it. The reason I choose to do a PowerPoint was so that it would be easy to scroll through. Voice-over- I did a plain voice-over with pictures so that the pictures and voice-over link well together.  Video with text- this was so that I was able to write a lot of text and answer in detail. Plain text- this has allowed me to write in great detail.
